Who's behind it

I'm the bådsmand (boat keeper) for the shared boat in my boat club, and I trained as a computer programmer. I've lived in Christianshavn most of my life, and the water, the canals, the quays and the communities have always meant a lot to me. They're what make a small boat club still feel like somewhere you belong. I started making All Aboard because there wasn't really anything that fitted a small boat club, and because I believe that clubs get used more when it's easy to take part.

You can't speak without a mouth

You can't speak without a mouth, and club members can't talk together either, without a proper place to do it. Before All Aboard, messages, shared-boat bookings and events each sat in their own place — on a Facebook page, in private calendars, on a mailing list with over 50 members — and the boat could be booked through a patient booking system. It was hard to communicate, and hard to keep shared agreements straight when the conversation sat in a social medium full of ads and noise, and then you can be sure that your personal data was being sold on. We could almost not keep track of who had the boat, even harder to figure out who had had it, and if someone had booked without sailing, or something went wrong during the sail, a log was never written. So I sat down and made something myself, because I wanted one place for everything. I started with a very simple feature: Who has the shared boat? Quietly more features came along, and in the end I stood with booking, messages, forum, logbook, receipts and paperwork, tools that make it easier for the chair, and a calendar with the club's events — all in the same place, without that noise, and without giving up your personal data.

Founded in Christianshavn

All Aboard was founded in Christianshavn. I love that it feels like its own little island in the middle of the city — a unique place where we have to protect and maintain the communities that once made Christianshavn what it is today. The best way to do that is to give associations the best conditions for staying in touch, in a world that constantly fights for your attention. The internet has made most things faster, but it has also made the old ways of communicating feel even more awkward. So I hope other clubs can be spared some of the hassle we had, and that All Aboard can give a bit more life to the clubs, so people see each other and talk more.

Any questions? Just write.
